This mural is 9 ft. by 44 ft. The plaster wall wall was sealed with a commercial primer then I applied two coats of gesso. I worked from photographs of the Arctic and combined them to create the scene. The layout is with charcoal and thin glazes are applied to create the water.I worked closely with the habitat company to create a seamless transition from the painted surface to the three dimension snow,ice and rocks. This type of mural is a backdrop and should be seen as an element of the diorama and the muted colors help support the scene and not overpower it.
